research into potential target audience: 12

BBFC Classification

We decided to classify this film as a 12 because there is no bad language and the violence is implied as we rely on the suspense created within the editing of the film.

Therefore it is a viable '12' movie.

15 movies are allowed to have violence and gore but no excessive amounts of either whereas in an 18 film the violence and gore limits are much higher and allow for very bad language within the context of the film. As ours contains neither bad language of violence we classify it as a 12.

Pitch: Town of the Dead

Pitch: Town of the Dead

It starts with a man running, breathing heavily with a look of terror on his face, the titles are all happening while the man is running. It all goes dark the man screams, it cuts to the group of friends the film follows.

The friends enjoying themselves and so on, its Halloween, they’re having a party. The music cuts out and a special report comes on the radio telling everyone to stay indoors, they look out of the window, everyone is gone, then they see someone running with a someone chasing them, the person catches them and mauls them then you see the face, it’s a zombie.

They stay in the house and hide in the cellar, food soon runs out, they have to leave the house to get supplies, they all get attacked one by one, until the last person gets away to be the sole survivor. Alone in a zombie infested town.

We will use the medium of silence within the film to create suspense, music will be used where necessary but where possible we will just use the natural sounds to make it more realistic, we will use uniquely framed shots such as shot through slats in benches, over brick walls and other places to add emphasis to the atmosphere of the scene. The action will be sporadically placed within the film to keep the momentum of the film quite quick.

Locations will be varied it will have places in various stages of destruction and decay a house will be used for a couple of scenes, a cellar and a small wooded area. We will also used props, like mannequin arms and fake weapons (no guns) also we will be needing a lot of Halloween make-up and even more fake blood because of the amount of gore that we have written in.

Camera shots within the film will be close ups and long shots these are staples of the horror genre, mainly because in the early stages close ups add suspense to a sequence and further on in the film long shots display the scene as a whole and illustrate the carnage and spread of the destruction. The angles we will use depend upon the scenes but I think they will mostly be generic.

We think that our movie will bridge the gap between the few horror movies that have been released in the last few years specifically the lack lustre zombie movies that have been released where quality would have been a lot better than quantity, our film will provide that quality given the chance to brought to life (or not so much life as death)

All in all I think that our film would sell, the market has been open for a decent horror since Diary of the dead flopped earlier in the year, we want the genre to bounce back and believe we are the ones to do it.

Thank you for your time.

Script

Girl crying alone in dark, town deserted. Covered in blood.

(“2 days earlier” appears on screen)

Kurt – running, no dialogue. Attacked by zombie.

Cut scene after zombification.

(Long shot outside building, cuts inside)

Four people, two boys, two girls, hanging out inside house. Listening to music. Inaudible dialogue, sounds like the people are having fun, laughter…etc.

News report is audible over stifled background noise, urging people to stay indoors. Zombie comes to door, as it is Halloween the people think it’s just a drunkard.

Dialogue begins:

Dalton: (laughing slightly) Can I help you out there man?

Zombie: (Groan)

Dalton: (laughs) Look, if you don’t want owt, do you reckon you can get out of my garden? Maybe go home and sleep it off mate, eh?

(Zombie attacks Dalton)

(Dalton groans and screams as jugular gets ripped out)

(Mass panic as people run to the door)

People spilt up as zombies gather near house.

Emily: (Screams names) (Looks panicked and crying, confusion)

(Turns corner, sees Sarah being devoured by awesomely gnarly Zombie Kurt)

(Screams, turns and runs into another zombie – possibly Dalton, manages to escape after someone else runs in the way and gets eaten, blood spurts all over Emily)

Script end, final scenes improvised on day of shooting, we believe this will add effect to the scenario, giving life to a situation if it were really happening.

Company Logo

We decided upon this logo because it was the best out of two logos and it goes well with the genre of our film as we are doing a zombie movie in the first place.
